The Rushmore Report: The Bible’s #1 Verse for Raising Kids

As parents, we all want to raise great kids – children who love God and country, while excelling in school, in music, and on the the athletic fields. But while we want our kids to have great outcomes, we often fail in doing the things necessary to raise kids that will turn out the way we hope. God has answers. So let’s consider the Bible’s #1 verse for raising kids. Here is it . . .

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk to them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:5-6).

How enlightening that before God commands parents to diligently teach their children, he first instructs them to passionately love him. God wants parents to understand that they cannot transfer to their children what they do not possess themselves. The foundation for both a great marriage and successful parenting is to love the Lord supremely above every other love.

There are tons of great books on Christian parenting. And the Bible offers wisdom and guidance throughout its 66 books. But you will not find a more poignant verse than this one. There is no formula that guarantees our kids will turn out the way we hope. But this one gets pretty close. That’s why it is the Bible’s #1 verse for raising kids.
