The Department of Justice Inspector General is out with his report on the FBI’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation – and it is an indictment on our highest law enforcement agency that should terrify every American. Even the most left-leaning commentators have had to acknowledge the obvious. The work of the top FBI brass – including James Comey – is beyond defense.
Here are just five points in the Inspector General’s report that should scare every American.
1. High level FBI agents were committed to Donald Trump’s defeat in 2016.
FBI agents Lisa Page and Peter Strzok texted about stopping Trump. When Page asked if Trump might actually be elected, Strzok responded, “I will stop it.” The IG report found that the texts “created the appearance that investigative decisions were impacted by bias or improper considerations.”
2. FBI Director James Comey decided to exonerate Clinton months before he concluded the investigation.
While Comey did not announce his conclusions until July 2016, he arrived at his conclusions that Spring, several months earlier. The IG report found that while Comey said publicly that he was considering the appointment of a special counsel to look into the improprieties of Clinton’s handling of her emails and the destruction of evidence, he was never serious about such an investigation.
3. The DOJ and FBI changed the law to exonerate Clinton.
The IG said that based on precedent, Hillary would have had to have demonstrated a state of mind that was “so gross as to almost suggest deliberate intentions.” That is not part of the law.
4. The FBI prioritized the Russian investigation above the Hillary investigation.
The report concluded, “The FBI’s failure to act in late September or early October is even less justifiable when contrasted with the attention and resources that FBI management dedicated to the unfounded Russian investigation.”
5. Five separate agents sent pro-Clinton, anti-Trump texts.
The pro-Clinton, anti-Trump bias was more widespread among the FBI than we were previously told. The IG report found that these five agents “appeared to mix political opinions with discussions about the midyear investigation.” In other words, they were intent on swaying the elections with manufactured evidence against Trump.
We know that Robert Mueller has hired 13 Hillary supporters in his effort to investigate President Trump. That alone should be enough to derail any delusion that the FBI’s work and the Mueller investigation are being conducted objectively. Add the Inspector General’s report, and this should be enough to scare every American – regardless of his or her politics.
